New Delhi, July 20: Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a decline in enrolment in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) over the past decade despite an increase in the number of institutions, bucking the national trend where both ITIs and student enrolment have grown significantly. The figures were disclosed by the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
According to the reply, the number of ITIs in Andhra Pradesh increased from 467 in 2014 to 520 in 2026. However, enrolment fell from 56,429 students in 2014-15 to 54,213 in 2025-26, a decline of 2,216 students (3.9%) during the period.
In contrast, at the national level, the number of ITIs increased from 9,642 to 13,856, while enrolment rose sharply from 9.51 lakh to 14.70 lakh, registering an increase of more than 5.19 lakh students (54.6%).
Andhra Pradesh Among a Few States Reporting Lower Enrolment
The parliamentary reply indicates that Andhra Pradesh is among the few major States where ITI enrolment has declined over the last decade. While most large States reported substantial increases, Andhra Pradesh moved in the opposite direction despite adding 53 new ITIs.
