Legislative Council Thanks Centre for Saving Visakhapatnam Steel Plant

Amaravati: Minister for IT and Industries Nara Lokesh on Tuesday moved a resolution in the Legislative Council thanking the Central government for saving the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant from privatisation.

Lokesh said the Centre had made it clear that the plant would remain in the public sector and also extended support to revive its finances. “The people of Andhra Pradesh struggled hard for this plant. We thank the Union government for respecting their sentiment,” he said.

The minister asked all parties to back the resolution unanimously. He assured the House that the State government would work with the Centre to strengthen the plant and secure the future of its workers.

Lokesh also criticised the previous YSRCP regime for “spreading confusion” on the issue. He said the new coalition government would protect the steel plant at all costs.

The resolution was adopted by the Council after the minister’s statement.
